How do I make blog file size upload adjustments?
Question by jdear000: How do I make blog file size upload adjustments?
I have a wordpress blog, and maximum upload size is 10mb. I want to either upload songs or have a media player that plays them, but the songs I listen to are electronic, and long, and larger than I’m allowed to upload. Is there an application I can add that will help, or is there a way to tweak the maximum file size, or a way to make my music files smaller? I’m kind of computer-stupid, so layman’s terms would be appreciated.

Contact your hosting company tech support. Some allow you to change parameters, like max file size and time, some don’t.

Those parameters are set by your hosting company, not WordPress. I just changed hosts, and went from a 8mb limit to basically unlimited when uploading in wordpress. Contact your host and question what their resource usage limit is and see if they can change it for you.
But, it sounds like you’re on a shared hosting plot. Your host will probably slow down your bandwidth speed if too many people are streaming or downloading things. Or, depending on their terms of service, could shut you down all together for offering media downloads. I would use a secondary service not hosting on your site to provide a media player.

You are, like most of us I suspect, on a shared hosting account with your hosting company. Uploading your files to your hosting account is only a excellent thing to do if you expect nobody to ever listen to your songs!
Every time somebody does download or listen to your songs it uses up bandwidth and hosting companies ( no matter what they say) don’t like it when your visitors are downloading Gigabytes of digital info, whatever that is – audio/video whatever.
So, work on the premise that you are going to be a huge hit! Sign up to Amazon Web Services and upload your files to your account with them – you only pay when somebody downloads and it costs, literally, pennies. PLUS when you and your music go viral your site won’t crash ( as they are not hosting the audio files) which it certainly would do if you upload your files to them!
You can still play the tunes within your site, or offer downloads but your hosting company won’t get upset!
That and the facts of download speeds, streaming issues etc. makes Amazon (AWS) an absolute solution. Their support and training is excellent and it’s really pretty simple to do – I host all my sites training videos with them and never had an issue or a monthly bill over $ 3 !!!
